In this blog this week, I will be talking about what I've done. On Monday we presented our posters. Our poster were about the book "Ten Letters" by Eli Saslow. The book is more like ten short stories about people sending mail to the president of the United States. Barack Obama responds and changed people's lives by his words. Words can affect everyone and change who they are. In the short stories, he sends back letters from the people and inspires them to keep on going. We also read a short story called "A Retrieved Reformation" by O. Henry that is about a man named Jimmy who was changed too by the power of words because he used to be a criminal that loved a lot to open saves and steal the money in it. He stole lots of money and doesn't get caught. One day it all changed when he goes to Elmore, a town. In the town he meets a girl, they date and will get married soon. The dad owners the bank and he thinks he is a great man. He sends a letter to Ben Price, the man who is a police offers that knows Jimmy. He sends the letter saying he is a changed man and will marry. At the end if the story, a little girl gets stuck inside the safe and will die of being scared and little air. Jimmy one last time gets his safe opening tools and knocks the door right open. Jimmy sees Ben price and as he saw Jimmy, he saw him save the little girl and let him free and not go to jail. Ben price walks down the street slowly and the story ends. It is probably my favorite short story because it is interesting and shows the power of words that someone can change. For sure Jimmy changes and is a different man after he visits that town and does good. Today we wrote an essay about the power of words and I finished it, hopefully I pass it.
